The littoral zone, the space between high tide and the belly of the storm*. The constantly changing space, which unites and separates the dry and wet. A violent space, where breaking waves seem to speed up time and grind away land, and in its turmoil a paradise of nutrients, oxygen-rich water and life.

We will explore the conditions and effects of the tidal zone using ourselves and the materials found on Sandøya. We will map, collect and experiment, while following the rhythm of the moon.

The site.

By using the contrast between the light coral sand against against the darker muddy sand of the beach, we created a series of rings around a single element.
The rings would give us a physical object to document the change of tide. The sand would eventually disapear and leave no trace.
The rock used as the center piece would give us a reference point when the tide is at it´s highest.

The result was a dynamic and natural landart project inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.
